You may be wondering why only half the states and why only half marathons? All of us at Half-2-Run think halfway is the only way to go.

Why not run 50 states? We've got plenty of reasons. Think of all the places you've never dreamed of going to and never wanted to. By committing to only half the states, you can find 25 pretty nice places you want to visit. But ... you decide to go all the way, we'll be there to cheer you on!

With all the wonderful places to see, do you really want to spend all your time preparing for 26.2 mile run? Now with a half-marathon, an easy sightseeing run the day before and after the race are not out of the question, in fact, it might just be what the doctor ordered. Race half as far, run twice as much!

On race day, you'll be happy to see the finish line after 13.1 miles. The Party Can Start Early!!

If that's not enough- think of all the little things. You're done in half the time, shoes last twice as long; training takes half the time and if you're running in crummy weather- you're in it for half as long.

Don't get us wrong! 13.1 miles is a serious distance- less than 1% of the population can go that far! By the time you finish this, you'll have run 327.5 miles and covered 25 states- it's a huge accomplishment!

People will exclaim ... "You're an athletic machine!"

And you get to wear cool stuff like this!

How it works

It's really pretty simple. Half2Run is a community-based competition. What this means, is that in order to compete, you'll need to create an account. We do this for two reasons: 1.) We need to know who you are so we can send you clever gimmicks like hats, t-shirts and Half2Run bottle openers. 2.) We don't want to police what you post on the site, so it's our hope that knowing each member's identity, people are more likely to be polite?

To begin, you register. You've done this a thousand times before. Name, email... wait for something to show up in your inbox, then click to validate the account.

Once you're a member, you can post messages and record races. To login, you'll use a nickname and a password. The login box will look something like the one to the left. (You don't need to login in to read stories or find races. You only need to use this if you want to post information.)

One of the things you'll do in Half2Run is trip planning. You have 25 races to run, that means you'll need to pick some states and start booking some flights. To find races, you'll select from a navigation menu that will look something like this.

This will display a map of the US...

Click the state that's of interest and a bunch of races will be displayed. For example, if you pointed at and clicked California, you'll see a listing of all races in that state...

But what if you don't know what state you want to visit? Maybe you're like most people and have certain weekends when you're available to get the heck outta town. In this case, you would select a calendar view so you could see all races available on a given date.

We're not trying to be the end-all race database that tells everything about a race. That's better left to the website of the actual race. We provide just enough info so you're aware of it. One of the rules of Half2Run is that each half marathon must at least have a website, so we post that for you to do your own research! Here's what race posting might look like.

After you've completed a race, you would come back here, find the race just like you did when you planned the trip. However, because the race date is now in the past, you will be presented with a place to enter a comment and your finish time. (of course, you would need to be logged in to do this)

You will be required to swear that you ran this race. As long as you're willing to do that, then the "I SWEAR" button appears. Once you've run a race in a single state, you are welcome to record others, but you only get credit 1:1. (e.g., Running two races in a state counts only as one toward your goal of 25.)
