| Running through history was great, but the hills were tough for this Virginia Beach girl! Working on that now. |
| |
| Great day (no wind, 55, little sun) and great course (monuments and flat). Long time to start spread runners out nicely and good support at end. Many stations with goo and drink, good fan support, but where were the mile markers? |
| |
| Had a great race. Weather was perfect, lots of aid stations, great pocket of supporters. It was nice to see neighborhoods in DC! |
| |
| Rather flat course through the city with great views of the many monuments and sites. Well organized except for lack of GU at designated stations. BYOG (bring your own gu). Great Medal! |
| |
| Beautiful weather |
| |
| The course was challenging but not too bad. The hills were plentiful but they weren't too long and just as you were getting tired you got to the top.
The support was really good and while there are some things they could do better (markers at all the miles, not crossing the full marathon course for bag drop pickup) none of those things were really bad.
I would recommend this race for anyone looking for a slightly challenging spring half. |
| |
| Beautiful weather and lovely scenery through the National Mall and DC neighborhoods. Adams Morgan had the best cheering section and Howard had the best music. Nice medal and shirt and some surprise hills in the course. |
| |
| Nice crowd support; most gu/gel stations that I've seen on a 1/2 course. Easy access to start/finish with metro station. s/s tech shirt and gloves plus other goodies... |
| |
| Great race with good support and plenty of water stops. Loved the course through the city. This is a good choice for a March race! Lots of goodies at the expo. Use the Metro or arrive more then an hour early to park. |
| |
| I thought it was going to be a bit of a logistical nightmare starting at RFK stadium but it was an easy Metro ride. The course is nice, fairly flat, and well-organized. GREAT medal too! |
| |
| "NYC Marathon Light": Nation's Capital, but other than the stretch on Constitution Avenue has the look and feel of a typical urban marathon. Decent crowd support in spots. 2 challenging hills at 6.5 and 7.5, but they have corresponding downhill stretches. The last 2 miles seems to be easy downhills or flat, so great way to finish. |
| |
| When are they going to get this right? Water stops were rough.
Best shirt and medal so far |
| |
| Nice course. They ran out of cups, but volunteers were still supportive. Well organized, opened the subway early for us to get there |
| |
| This races gets better and better each year! |
| |
| This race was part I of a double header for me this weekend! It went well, with Classic scenery, & excellent weather, good medal, & excellent shirt. |
| |
| Very nice course and well organized. Prettier than Marine Corps Marathon Course. A very hills but pretty easy... |
| |
| It was a nice run, a bit more hilly than I expected, but good training. Nice shirts and metals, but the water stations needed some help, ran out of cups. |
| |
| The course had some hills but overall I enjoyed the course. |
| |
| Challenging, hilly course throughout Washington DC. Overall, I thought it was well-organized and carried out. |
| |
| Hills are challenging, but good course. Still needs some work on water stations-I feel bad for the volunteers who are working so hard to keep up. |
| |
| Never been to DC, but I should have. The course was great and the surroundings were better. |
| |
| |
| |
| Course changed from last year (improvement), some hils, but better sites. Not quite in shape, so my time was way slower than normal... |
| |
| Nice course, great volunteers and easy to get to on the Metro. Bag check was a nightmare--it needs a serious overhaul. |
| |
| 31 degrees, windy, mod hills, just OK, not great. No pins, no chip attachments, no gear bags, mile markers not in right place. |
| |
| Well organized race except for the gear check - stood in line for 15-20 mins. The course was isn't too hilly. Lots of volunteers along the course so you felt well supported. Great sight seeing along the course too! Ran with an injured foot which wasn't fun on the lumpy roads. |
| |
| Great race, very nice course! Well organized!! |
| |
| Great day. Cool. A lot of water and gatorade on the course. Hills weren't too bad. Not too steep just long incline. Fun to run by the Capitol and Washington Momument. Used my cell phone to snap photos. Cherry trees were blooming. |
| |
| MMMM-third time the charm. I ran this faster and gave it a chance, but a no go after this year. The route was hilly, but good and volunteers were great, but goodness. We pay ALOT of money and I have run races for 1/2 the price and better quality everything. Why won't any one support this race???
Bagels and bananas at finish were frozen and it took 10 minutes for me to find someone with water. Everything just seemed thrown together and don't get me going on the Expo-nothing to buy.
Ok, not everyone runs for this stuff, but I don't want to think at the end of a race-just nice snacks and water.
Oh, they also closed the most convenient way to get out of the parking lot-thank goodness for my gps because the signs sucked. |
| |
| Small race but easy access via the Metro. I was hoping for nice weather, but it was drizzling the entire race so I ended it wet and with one blister, but another one down and 13 to go. |
| |
| This was a good race, good weather, great area and very nice medal. It was a smaller race than I expected so that was a plus as well. The second half had more hills than the first half, so went a little slower. |
| |
| It was exciting to run past the Capitol, the White House, the Washington Memorial, and the other government buildings--a privelege to run on the streets of Washington without trafffic. The spectators were spirited. Great running weather--cool and overcast with a little drizzle. |
| |
| WON 2nd place in my age group! I did Race Walking. The course was 0.24 longer than 13.1. Half marathoners were 2800/4600. The course was much better police monitored this year. Food was only bananas and bagels. |
| |
| Rainy and hilly, and I overdressed. Not my best and not my worst. Running past the monuments was fun.

| |
| Hilly and challenging course. I enjoyed runnign through DC. |
| |
| This was a great race despite the drizzle. The weather was warm enough for comfortable running without overheating. It was wonderful to run past the Capitol, White House, and Washington Monument. Running through the neighborhoods made for an interesting route, too. Quote of the race: "Lucille, I don't think the busses are running." (as 5,000 runners fill the street) |
| |
| An excellent race. The course tours a variety of D.C. locations, including national monuments, government buildings, and neighborhoods. Lots of infrastructure in terms of people at intersections and water stops. The weather was cool at the beginning, with some light showers. |
| |
| Very surprised there were no porta johns on the course, and don't recall any time clocks after mile 5 on the course. Finisher's medal was nice, t-shirt is pretty generic. |
| |
| Sorry, gave this one a second chance, but won't do it again. The water stops were a disaster-not the fault of the volunteers, just a mess. |
| |
| Disasterous! They closed the course for race-walkers so we were left alone. I had no directions, map, police patrol, cones or water. Multiple problems occurred as we went through shady parts of Anacostia. No support. |
| |
| I'm a flatlander-the last third of the race got a little hilly for me. The streets of D.C. are very scenic. |
| |
| Needs some work. The start was crazy and the shirt sizes available needs to be worked on. |
| |
| Well organized race. I expected more porta-pottys along the course from a mega race but luckily I did not need one. I'm skeptical about the accuracy of the course: how can a half-marathon & a full marathon start and end at exactly the same points? Of course, the full could be a double loop but it was not. There could have been an out-and-back dog leg on the full marathon, too, but I doubt it. (The half had no out & back dog leg as far as I could tell.) There was no 13 mile mark for the half-marathon. I think it was close to being accurate but I would expect a mega race to be certified. (I'm sure the full marathon was certified or at least accurate.) It would be nice if large, temporary signs could be posted identifying some of the buildings such as the Supreme Court. Having signs for the first half mile mark and the 1 & 1/2 mile mark was a very classy touch! The half-marathon did not go into Maryland, just the full marathon. |
| |
| 3/25/2006 - A great inaugural event in DC with surprisingly only 2000 marathoners and half-marathoners. I can see this race getting huge in the future! We were fast and flat for the first 10 miles and the hills over the last three didn't stop me from a new PR! Yeay!! :) |
