Description

The half marathon will start at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013 , at the same time as the full marathon field. The two groups will run together for approximately nine miles, when the half marathon field will turn back toward downtown and end at the Marathon finish line along Yeatman's Cove.

2013
Thomas Turner 2nd time running, still my favorite race. Still dont like "The Climb" from mile 5-8, but it was all downhill after that.
Time:02:21

Clark Crosson Great race, lots of spectators, well organized. Got to experience both downtown and a nice view off the bluff. Great dual sided medal.
Time:02:15

2012
Linda Murray Well organized. Good support at water stations. Liked the scenery: hills, city streets, and unique neighborhoods.
Time:03:00

Mary Hoatlin My favorite race so far. Awesome crowd and course.
Time:02:20

Michael Romej Very well organized, nice downhill finish.
Time:01:42

Cheryl Stromski Very hilly of course! Great treats at the end and race is really well organized. My time was with one ten minute restroom stop.
Time:02:40

Jody Smyth Loved seeing the beautiful buildings of the city. Very friendly and plentiful volunteers.
Time:03:16

Nancy Hiltibrand Challenging course with hills and heat but I live and train in the area so it was not too bad. The crowds really make it a great race.
Time:02:43

Frank Chahulski It was a hot and humid day but I really liked this race. The course is challenging but the whole city gets behind the event and there was a lot of course support.
Time:01:25

2011
Christina Harp Good race, fun scenery - loved going through the park and across the bridge. Hilly, but not too hilly. BEST post-race food and goodies I've had yet - thanks P&G.
Time:01:43

Feng-Ru Sheu HILLY! and it was raining. but was a fun event. great community support. long line for the restroom....
Time:02:38

Sheila Stevenson Scenic course that dips into Kentucky too. One BIG climb but it's all downhill after that. We had trouble reuniting because we couldn't find our predetermined letter in the family reunite area.
Time:02:40

Michael Hoyt Rained. Uphill for nearly the first 10 miles. steeper incline from Miles 5-9. Great city views. Well organized. Tough course. My Garmin had Elevation Gain of 1,157 feet. This route started over the bridge into Newport and back to the top of the ridge looking down on Cincinnati. The Heart Mini from March stayed at the river level and did not go up to the overlook. Lots of snacks at the finish. Nice medal. I would do it again.
Time:02:32

Troy Rambo A very crowded race. Not a huge fan of it despite all of the hoopla.
Time:02:32

Tracey Tolin Walked it with an injured friend. Good course, great swag, great food at finish! Start line needs some organization / crowd control.
Time:04:15

Melissa Griffin It must always rain...photos in the expo guide are all wet and they sell really cute piggy ponchos! Otherwise, well supported race with good swag, but be prepared.....IT AIN'T FLAT :)
Time:02:19

Fran Nicholson awesome race good support great expo
Time:02:49

Lyn DeGroot Great race even with the hills and in the rain! Awesome theme and well organized.
Time:02:51

Tonya Barnett Rainy and hilly. It was really fun, and 98% really well organized. Around mile 6 or so, they ran out of cups, but the rest of the water stations (before and after that one) were well stocked. Didn't find any 'Finisher' merchandise, but the race swag was great!
Time:02:57

Michelle Ham Great swag - awesome shirt, backpack and poster, amazing support along the race course. It was definitely hilly however and apparently it is not unusual for it to rain every year for this race so make sure you are prepared for both!
Time:02:12

Joanne Baitup Great Race. Great Premiums Love this race
Time:02:07

William Bulloch Great marathon / half marathon, good hills though
Time:02:11

Time:02:45

Jennifer Gessner Rainy but GEORGEOUS!! And great support on the course.
Time:02:11

Kathy Winslow Great Race!
Time:03:54

Cathie Creely Was apprehensive about the legendary hills, but really like the course, especially the long downhill in the last 5 miles. Weather could have been dryer, but at least not too cold. With so many runners/walkers, surprised there wasn't a corral start.
Time:02:45

David Purol Ran the "Flying Pig in the Slop." It rained the whole race but a great time nonetheless. Well organized and supported - they have their stuff together.
Time:02:30

Allison Weimer Soggy start, but once we were running we didn't notice. Love the crowd support, even in the not-so-nice weather, and while the hills kicked me, I kicked them back.
Time:01:58

Eric Weimer Fun course with some bridges and decent elevation changes. Rain didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits and let up after about half an hour. Course was flanked throughout by enthusiastic crowds willing to brave the weather.
Time:01:58

Andrea Kong It was pouring rain but overall a good, tough hilly course. There were water stations at almost every mile and great spectator support even with the rain.
Time:02:02

Rob Slocum A rolling to hilly loop course with lots of runners. An event. This year the weather was challenging before the start-- lightning, and heavy rain. But the lightning stopped by race time, which was helpful. The race was very well organized. I'm told the organizers had contingency plans if the challenging weather persisted until time for the race. Lots of spectator support along the way, and some beautiful views of the city and the river. The flying pig theme was fun. A great race, even if it was relatively slow for me.
Time:02:25

Victoria Slocum I ran this race in memory of my mother, Theresa, who passed away on Friday. She liked pigs and collected pig stuff. When we planned to run this race, I wanted to bring something back for her, but it wasn't to be. I had a picture of her wearing a pig snout and ears pinned to my belt. It was a hard race, physically and emotionally, but I'm very glad I did it. Despite very adverse weather conditions, this was a well run race.
Time:02:28

Laura Purol Fun expo, great cinco de mayo weekend. Rained the entire race, got blisters everywhere! Lots of water stops. Started on time even with the rain. That deserves some applause
Time:02:36

Time:06:30

Allison Leer Fun race. Great spectators (squealers). Hilly! Nice medal.
Time:02:43

Time:03:01

Gary Keenan Didn't like the hills but the start and finish were nice - nice expo and post race
Time:02:40

Pat Vroman-Stuart Fun race...great expo...beautiful park overlooking the Ohio River....well done...

Time:02:58

Robert stange Nice race well run. Cincinnati is a good city to visit.
Time:02:13

Time:02:07

Time:02:25

Beth Antenucci Once again a great race. The weather cooperated. Crowd support was wonderful. Entertainment kept my legs moving.
Time:03:57

Alice McGinley Great race, but I personally thought the hills were tough (I could be wimpy). I didn't use the gear check or anything, but the course support was fantastic, the medal great, and although the t-shirt was only OK, you also got a cool poster and neat bag as souveniers. Was a very fun race and I set a new PR!

Time:03:14

Time:02:29

Time:01:49

Mary Beth Campau Lots of fun. Interesting course. The hills weren't as bad as I thought but still got to me at about 8 miles, but then there's the downhill finish. My Garmin says the course was a little long but well worth doing!
Time:02:26

Susan Meehan Great PR and I love the PIG! Big hills but doable.
Time:03:55

Randall Hardwick Changed the course and I didn't like it as well as before.
Time:02:10

Time:02:07

Marlyn Hahn Run accros bridge into KY, hilly, great expo.
Time:01:53

Heather Anderson I ran this race in 2006. I had the most fun of any race yet. The expo was great. The crowds along the course were so enthusiastic. The whole city rallies around this event and makes you feel so welcome. I may have repeat this one. http://results.timberlinetiming.com/results/index.cfm
Time:02:22

Russell Cooper Second time I've run it. Major hills. Shaved 9 minutes off from last year.
Time:02:08

Lisa Millam I am the biggest PIG fan there is. This is a hilly course but there is so much entertainment you almost forget you're running up hill!
Time:02:59

CHERYL CHAVERIAT A well planned race (some hills)
Time:02:02

Amy OLoughlin Ran this year the day after the Indy half marathon...tough course, but lots of fun! Great crowd support!
Time:02:27

Mary Beth Fournier Ran it on 5/7/06. So much fun with the flying pig theme! The goodies were wonderful. I'll always enjoy my pictures of the guy dressed as a pink pig, Dancing/Singing Elvis, the runners dressed in pink tutus and pig ears and snouts. The hills were rough! But what a fabulous medal at the finish!
Time:03:03

Johnny Fort There was great spectator support at this race which made the time go by quickly. It started at 6am so there was a great view of the sunrise. Lots of difficult, long hills made for a challenging run. Overall a very fun race that I would recommend to everyone. http://results.timberlinetiming.com/results/index.cfm
Time:01:50

Ann Guevara It was the greatest. I highly recomend it. I had my best time - both a PR and most fun race that I have run.
Time:02:40

Richard Bazzy Great organization and lots of cool swag. Tough hill from 6-8 miles but love the downhill finish. Should count for 2 states--we crossed into Kentucky (or so they tell me!).
Time:01:43

Gail Bazzy With a 6am start time, I wasn't even awake until the run was over. I thought it was an enjoyable, challenging course, with uphills from miles 6-8, then great downhills from 10-12. The people we met in Cincinnati were very friendly and helpful. Great swag!
Time:02:00

Patrick Cameron Great big event. Lots of things to do and a great run. Great gifts and handouts, so much that it was too much to carry. The race course was great.
Time:03:06

Christie Janssen Great Race!! Well organized. Nice hilly course with great views above the river. Lots of crowd support at the finish.
Time:03:08

Marie Glasby loved the fun atmosphere, great give-aways, great support , organization, tough hills
Time:03:02

Laura Donnelley Great race! I took it easy this time, as I had raced Louisville the week before. Dressed in my pink pig outfit with the requisite ears, tail and nose, which the crowd seemed to get a kick out of -- I kept hearing "go piggy go" as I went by. Hills weren't as bad as I thought they would be, and this race just flew by for me even though I wasn't racing it. Great freebies, and well organized race/expo/pasta party. I stayed on the N KY side, and took a riverboat to the start -- nice and relaxing at 4:30 am (yikes). Really liked having the stadium open for real restrooms and shelter from the cool weather.
Time:02:00

Tammy Root What a fun race! Great expo, friendly volunteers, lots of crowd support, and a beautiful course. The whole "pig" theme was hilarious. On the drive home after the race, I followed a blue car with an Ohio plate that said "HAF 2 RUN" out of the city. Coincidence?
Time:01:45

Mathew Root This was a great race! The hills in the park were tough, but the last four miles of the course were downhill, so I had a PR (2:00:18). I had a blast!
Time:02:00

Scott Mosher What a beautiful view of the city and the Ohio River from the park, just breathtaking. I can see why this is rated as one of the top 10 marathons in the country. There were a ton of gifts at the expo and the race was very well staffed and there was a good assortment of food at the finish. There were some small rolling hills, but nothing too difficult. The best part was the last 2-3 miles of the course, which was all downhill. My average race pace is 8:15-8:30, but I was able to keep a 6:30 pace on the downhill for the last mile or two.
Time:01:47

Erin Fort (2006) The miles absolutely FLEW by during this half! The 6:00am start was a little too early for me, but it was neat to start in the dark and watch the sunrise from the bridge between KY and OH! Great spectator support, and it was almost all uphill until mile 9.5...the end is almost straight down! Great expo, AWESOME give aways (great shirt, gym bag, poster, rubber pig noses, etc;) and the pasta party the night before was fun!
Time:01:36

Eileen Fannon I like it a lot! Many goodies for participants and a good amount of food afterwards. I didn't think the hills were that bad. The crowd support at the end was great.
Time:02:59

Steve Schwartz Great weather (low 50's). All flat and downhill...if you don't count miles 5-9, which are an elevator.
Time:01:49

Vicki Wirges-Stanton Registered for the full Pig the year before, sadly must admit I "bailed" when the weather turn such a nasty turn. The half was offered in 2005, so I registered for it. The hills remind me of here at home in Little Rock, so the course was comfortable. Weather was chilly, and we ate at Skyline Chili that night...it was great. The expo is probably the best we have seen! The Pig merchandising is unsurpassed. We enjoyed hearing and talking to Jeff Galloway. And, the spectator support is the best we have seen! We would return this year, but we are going to Nashville the weekend prior to run with a TNT person for support of her...
Time:03:18

Malissa Kraft This was a great race...a few challenging hills, but a very fun atmosphere overall. Weather was perfect too.
Time:02:28

2005
Alpha Troutman I enjoyed the initial loop into Kentucky and back thru downtown Cincinnati. Then the 3 miles uphill! However, I loved the last 3 miles downhill to the finish. Great fan support.
Time:01:43

Mary Steinhauser I loved every minute of the race itself. There were lots of give-aways at the end. The crowd and support were wonderful. The hotel fire sirens made the event even more exciting.
Time:02:29

Beth Antenucci great race - lots of hills - well supported - great crowds
Time:03:36

Al Rushing Visited Cindi Irwin this year. Ran accross many bridges and back and forth accross the state line...
Time:02:30

Danette Bull Scenic course, lots of enthusiatic, supporitive fans, interesting costumes, cool entertainment along the way etc.
Time:02:44

Gayle Rockey This race was excellent! There were unexpected hills but the course was beautiful! Being just up the road, I will definitely run this one again.
Time:02:05

Kathy Haeckler Enjoyed all the Pig items
Time:02:16

chris Lyden Great Race!! Well organized. Nice hilly course with great views above the river. Lots of crowd support at the finish.
Time:03:08

Mary Zemansky Cold! Challenging course, with those hills and all. Love pigs and so it was easy to love this race.
Time:02:00

Diane Himebaugh Back to back after finishing Louisville the day before. Very hilly, but very good race and good organization.
Time:02:11

Russell Cooper Very hilly, but the last 3 miles are downhill. Best time this year.
Time:02:17

Carol Goslin Lots of support, great meadal didn't like the hills.
Time:02:17

Craig Bersak Please count this as Kentucky.

My wife and I did the 2004 marathon as a relay team.  I got to do the first half which goes thru Kentucky and then gets the Cincinnati hills before reaching the relay exchange point.  We had a rainy cold day for the race.

This is what marathons aspire to when they get good.  The support along the race was great.  Each of the participants got a shirt, backpack, and poster; finishers got a second shirt and medal.

Pat Hamilton Great Race! Had a great time. Weather couldn't have been better. Was very hilly, but didn't really mind because it was very scenic. Great finish by the water! Really liked the sports bag they gave away.
Time:02:23

Jennifer Warstler This was my third half-marathon, and my second time on the Pig Course. I ran the full marathon last year, and I decided to run the first Half-marathon to see how it compares. I ADORE the Flying Pig series. My favorite marathon is the Flying Pig, and now my favorite half-marathon is the Pig!
Time:02:40

Amy Schoenoff Beautiful view at the top of the hills. Jogged and chatted w/ friends - it was a great time! (Good freebies - who can pass up flying pigs?!)
Time:02:44

Susan Rusch Very well organized race. A few hills but last three miles all down hill so that was great. Good temps.
Time:02:24

Sharon Miner (5/1/05) This race was fun! Cool pigs all over town. The course had far more hills than I expected; mile 4 - 10 was essentially uphill. Great goodies and expo. The metal is the best! I ran this race in 2005, the first year for the half.
Time:02:32

Mary Kelpinski I loved the Flying Pig. It was very challenging with and uphill grade for the first 9 miles! Fortunately, it was almost all downhill after that.
Time:02:14

Lynette Sramek Beautiful course, great weather and good swag.
Time:02:15

Paula Berntsen I ran this race in 2004 and did it as a part of a two person relay team. It if hilly but worth it as the city really gets behind the race and makes it a great weekend event
Time:02:37

Sue Collins This race is the best half marathon I have done. The premiums were impressive. The course was very scenic and lots of fun. Can't wait to do this one again.
Time:02:57

Jo Farnsworth Excellent. Scenic course. It was uphill, but had a gradual incline. Enjoyed seeing Cincinnati Elvis at a water stop. The runners premiums were the absolute best. I'll do this race again.
Time:02:56

Dawn Hamilton Fun race. The best part was the last few miles, which were downhill. My best 5k ever!!!!
Time:02:12

bill Hardimon Yes there are big hills in this race, did I mention big hills! What goes up must come down and the last 5K is straight down hill, last 5k was 21:15, well organized race GREAT MEDALS good swag
Time:01:53

Cortney Turner My first half marathon. It was wonderful. I'm hooked. I enjoyed running over the Ohio river while the sun was coming up. Dancing Elvis was great, and the hills weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I started running just to get the flying pig stuff. I'm a collector, and I figured I had to earn the stuff, so I started running. I ran with two friends and had a blast.
Time:02:44

Sean McEneany I love going to Cincinnati to race. Yes, the hills are a killer but a lot of fun. Great and supportive crowds really help. Camr in second in the Clydesdale division. looking forward to next year
Time:01:43

Dominique Santiago This was my first half marathon and I'm hooked. It was a great race and they did a great job organizing it. I can't wait to run it again!
Time:02:09

Vickie Dorn Perfect weather. Was around 40 degrees at the start with no wind so didn't feel that cold. Had hills going up both bridges in the beginning. The 2nd bridge was a "shaky" bridge so be prepared. Miles 5 - 10 you are pretty much going up and down hills, but if you can hang on, you will be rewarded with almost 3 miles of downhill. I made up 90 secs. thank to that. Great medal, races goodies, and crowd support. I stayed at the Marriott Rivercenter which is connected to the convention center where the expo was and close to the pasta dinner. Wouldn't recommend doing the pasta dinner. Only one kind of pasta, salad, roll. Not much to eat for your $15. Good half marathon. I would highly recommend. Missed a PR by 5 secs. Oh well, next time.
Time:02:08

Jeanne Rudolph Completed 2 out of 3 races for the week. Better weather than last year, but I struggled up those #@$# hills. Oh well, at least you have to go down them on the way to the fabulous finish.
Time:02:24

Patrice Kaufman It was great, good weather, hilly in spots, lots of fun piggy costumes and paraphernalia! I ran with my husband and teenage daughter, it was her first 1/2 marathon so we had a blast!
Time:02:55

Traci Bagwell Very well organized, really nice premiums for runners, first 8 miles were all up hill I think, but a really fun day!!
Time:02:13

Sue Collins Perfect! The city went all out with hospitality. My favorite part was ~ mi 8, with a gorgeous view of the river and a formal men's chorus. Besides, at that point, almost all of the hills are done!
Time:02:51

Candis Gorman I had a great time. This was my first 1/2 marathon ever. The weather was perfect. The hills weren't as bad as I anticipated. Loved Elvis.
Time:02:36

Linda Doll Loved the hills!!! The expo was great and the volunteers very friendly.
Time:02:04

Melissa Monroe Running up hill for what seemed like forever to Eden Park had it's rewards when I suddenely remembered what goes up must come down. Miles 10-12 were all downhill!
Time:01:56

KariAnne Harmon Very fun ... the spectators and volunteers were awesome. Great gifts as well and the expo was fabulous. ALl merchandise was very reasonably priced. My time stunk ... but I did stop for lots of pictures with people dressed as pigs and elvis!
Time:02:45

Randall Hardwick Great race with nice views! fantastic finish, great crowd support!
Time:01:57

Tony Stidham Just finished running the inaugural Flying Pig Half Marathon this morning. Fantastic race, lots of crowd support, goodies included: embroidered duffle bag, race shirt, poster, towel, and finisher shirt. Nice looking medal. Great expo.
